Research Scholar Awards

This award provides $60,000 per year for two years (total $120,000) to young investigators working toward independent careers in gastroenterology, hepatology, or related areas. A third year of funding may be available contingent upon the availability of funds and after competitive review.

AGA-Vertex Pharmaceuticals Research Scholar Award in Hepatitis C Translational Research - 07/23/2010

This award provides $60,000 per year for two years (total $120,000) to young investigators interested in translational research. This award is intended to support research involving the application of a basic science finding in hepatocellular function, hepatitis C virus biology, or other genetic or biological processes to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of viral hepatitis C or its sequelae.

Fellowship to Faculty Transition Award

The award criteria is currently under revision. The revised criteria and new award deadline information will be posted in mid October 2010. This award provides $40,000 per year for two years for current trainees in gastroeterology related fields so they may gain additional research training in gastrointestinal, liver function or related diseases.

AGA-General Mills Bells Institute of Health and Nutrition Research Scholar Award in Gut Physiology and Health - 06/10/2010

Award will support a young investigator working toward an independent career studying the relationship of gut microflora to physiology and immune function.

Funderburg Research Scholar Award in Gastric Biology Related to Cancer

This award provides $50,000 per year for two years (total $100,000) to an established investigator working on novel approaches in gastric cancer research, including the fields of gastric mucosal cell biology; regeneration and regulation of cell growth (not as they relate to peptic ulcer disease or repair); inflammation (including Helicobacter pylori) as precancerous lesions; genetics of gastric carcinoma; oncogenes in gastric epithelial malignancies; epidemiology of gastric cancer; etiology of gastric epithelial malignancies; or clinical research in the diagnosis or treatment of gastric carcinoma.

Elsevier Pilot Research Award

A research initiative grant of $25,000 for one year is offered to investigators to support pilot research projects in gastroenterology-or hepatology-related areas.

Student Research Fellowship Awards

This award program offers $2,500 stipends for 10 high school students to spend time performing research in digestive diseases or nutrition for a minimum of 10 weeks. The research may take place at any time during the year.

AGA - Horizon Pharma Fellow Abstract Prizes

Three awards of $1,000 each will be given to fellows who have submitted abstracts chosen to be presented during Digestive Disease Week® (DDW). Prize recipients will be acknowledged at the NIH/PhD/Investigators Research Symposium during DDW.

AGA - Horizon Pharma Student Abstract Prizes

Eight travel awards of $500 each will be given to high school, undergraduate, graduate and medical students who have submitted abstracts chosen by the AGA to be presented during Digestive Disease Week®. Medical residents up to and including postgraduate year three are also eligible for the award. The three best student abstracts submitted will receive a $1,000 prize. Prize recipients will be acknowledged at the NIH/PhD/Investigators Research Symposium during DDW.

This award provides $500 to two young basic, translational or clinical investigators residing outside North America to support their travel and related expenses to attend Digestive Disease Week. Recipients will be acknowledged at the NIH/PhD/Investigators Research Symposium during DDW.

Investigators specifically interested in IBD Research should be aware of funds available from the Broad Medical Research Program for innovative proposals that will lead to improvements in the diagnosis, therapy or prevention of Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
